What is Botulinum toxin or BOTOX?
Botox is a substance derived from a bacteria that smoothens fine lines and wrinkles by blocking the nerve signals to the injected muscle area.
Botox injections are most known for their ability to minimise the look of wrinkles on the face. They're also used to treat problems like cervical dystonia (neck spasms), hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), an overactive bladder and lazy eye. Botox injections may potentially be beneficial in the prevention of chronic migraines as well.
Botox injections work by blocking chemical signals from neurons that cause muscles to contract. The most typical application of these injections is to relax the facial muscles that generate creases in the forehead and around the eyes for a short period.
Dr Klutch uses Botulinum toxin to treat the following areas:
- Face: Crow’s feet around eyes, forehead furrows, frown lines, lip lines and bunny lines around the nose
- Brow lift
- Chin dimpling
- Neckbands
- Laugh lines: Lifting the corners of the mouth
- Jawline: Correcting a square jaw
- Gummy smile
- Hyperhydrosis: correction of excessive sweating of the palms, underarms and back
- Bruxism: prevention of teeth grinding at night
What does the procedure involve?
Dr Klutch uses a tiny needle to inject the area, and the treatment generally takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. The effects usually last about three months for first-timers (and lasts longer than more frequently you get them).
How long does recovery take?
There may be some expected bruising after the procedure. Some other side effects may include mild discomfort, swelling or drooping at the treatment site, headache, neck pain, dry eyes and double vision. Inform Dr Klutch if you experience any of these side effects.
